"Late Bloomer"

I'm probably the only senior in my school
That hasn't gotten their driver's license
I'm a late bloomer, for sure
And no doubt I'm running out of patience

I have three more months until my road test
So the nervousness hasn't kicked in yet
But I'm sure it definitely will soon
Everyone says you'll be fine, no sweat!

I need to learn parallel parking
As quickly as I can
My brother keeps saying he'll teach me
But what he says never goes as planned

My whole life depends on that day of the test
Because as a college student, I'll be a commuter
And the test is two weeks before the semester starts
If I fail, I guess I'll just have to ride a scooter

But for now, I'll just have to wait it out
And take any chance I get to practice
Before I know it I'll be a college student
As I sit and write, I'm becoming more anxious!

"Goodbye Cellphone"

As I was getting ready to leave class
I grabbed my bag from the chair
And there my phone fell to its last
Speechless, all I did was stand and stare

Unfortunately the screen had shattered
To the point of no return
The pieces of the screen were scattered
And to my parents this would be a huge concern

There was three months left on the contract
I had to wait 'til then to get a new device
But I needed one in case of emergencies
Getting a new one wouldn't be that easy and nice

I went home and broke it to my parents
Luckily they weren't so super upset
They just told me to be more careful next time
My mom gave me her old phone and said, "don't fret!"

It was only one of those ancient phones
Not touch screen, no fancy shmancy parts
But I'm thankful that I'll have a phone in the meantime
I just hope I'll be careful and won't tear it apart

"The Ultimate Decision"

May 1st couldn't come any sooner
T'was the day I would finalize my decision
As to where I would go to college forever
And my two choices caused much collision

Okay, not forever, but this was a serious situation
I would spend my next four years in this school
I really needed to pick the correct location
Both campuses were very homey and cool

It was between CSLUB and Ramapo College
One in New Jersey and the other in California
There were many pros and cons that I had to acknowledge
I was about to explode and get a massive hernia

I have family and friends in both states
Who would support me no matter my choice
So ultimately it was up to me
To decide so we could finally all rejoice

And so I kept in my mind the financial difficulties
That my family would have if I were to choose
To go to California State University Long Beach
And no longer was my mind confused

CSULB was expensive and Ramapo was much cheaper
So Ramapo was the winner and I smiled wide
For I had made one of the biggest decisions in my life
I felt relieved and incredibly pumped up inside

"Planning for Spring Break"

It was the time of the year again
To plan a short trip for the upcoming spring break
We all wanted to head to the Philippines
But planning wasn't going to be a piece of cake

I haven't been there in a long ten years
So all the talk made me extremely excited
My mom was planning for three weeks of vacation
But my school attendance would be affected

Since there's only a few weeks left until break
Booking tickets now would consume our wallets
My parents and I wanted to go so badly
But we surely couldn't afford to be in debt

To go or not to go, that was the question
I guess it was less likely that we would
There were so many things getting in the way
Of going back to where I spent my childhood

I wanted to spend as much time there with my family
And enjoy the time to the fullest extent
So we talked and agreed we would go in the summer
And no doubt that this made me very content

As for spring break we planned for Virginia
To visit my aunts, uncles, and cousins
I just have to get through a couple days of school work
And pretty soon all the fun will begin!

Boracay, Philippines

"Everyone Was Born in February"

There were way too many birthdays in February
Seven eighteenth birthday parties to be exact
And with it came the need to buy presents
My wallet would no longer be packed

I wanted these presents to be special
Since they were all close friends of mine
But no way could I afford seven different presents
That would have great meaning and shine

So I went on a giant coin hunt
And gathered all the change I discovered
But I found only so much to buy half a present
I guess these gifts would have to be deferred

Financially, I was stressing like crazy
So I started hand-making some cards
And there and then I remembered that my presents
would just have to be made with love, now that wasn't so hard!

And I baked for all seven celebrants as well
My special chocolate chip brownies for them to enjoy
And my problem was solved because they all loved it
I was definitely stressed out for no reason, oh boy!

"Laptop Drop Flop"

There it goes! My poor, poor laptop
Baby Leah, my cousin, pulled the electric cord
My precious laptop, on the floor, it was dropped
Buying another computer, I could definitely not afford.

There I stood astonished and ready to cry
As the screen went black and the screen shattered
And there I was yelling, why Leah why?!
And there on the floor were pieces of my laptop, scattered

I tried to turn it on, but it wouldn't budge
I was trying to finish all my midterm reviews
There goes every inch of my hard work... oh fudge
I also needed to post on my blog, and that I couldn't do

Not to mention FAFSA would be due in a few days
And I needed to print some homework out
So at the library I camped out; it was the only way
To straighten my technological problems, no doubt

Just when I thought I would be laptop-less
I came home to a UPS box after midterm tests
Oh boy, this week was filled with stress
My mom bought me a brand new laptop; she is definitely the best!

Baby Leah and her love for all things cord-like

"Shift Switch"

My cousins were coming to visit for a weekend
All the way from Toronto
I hadn't seen them in a while
So I had to clear to my schedule pronto!

What slipped out of my mind
Was the eight hour shift I had on Saturday
I had to find someone to cover for me
But that wasn't going to be easy, no way!

Many people were calling out
Since the holiday season kicked in
So not one person was available
To take my shift and make me grin

But luckily my coworker called me
Begging me to cover his shift next week
So I told him only if he would do the same for me
And without hesitation, yes, he squeaked!

So that weekend I happily spent
Without work or any errands
T'was a great way to kick off the Christmas season
With my cousins, family, and friends!
